(Panama City, FL - October 11, 2004) Bay Town Trolley officials announce today the Trolley has surpassed its ridership record for 2003 in the first nine months of 2004 with 133,273 riders as of September 30. There were 114,844 riders in 2003
Every year, and nearly every month, Trolley ridership numbers continue to rise. In its first year of operation the Trolley averaged 1,300 riders a month for a total of 16,000 riders. Last month the Trolley logged over 13,000 riders in spite of the hurricanes and mandatory closures.
"We are excited about topping our ridership record this early in the year," said Doug Boice, Bay Town Trolley General Manager. "With continuous route improvements and expansions, low fares and plans for new shelters and benches we are going to see an even greater demand from the citizens of Bay County for access to the Trolley."
Even with this growth and increased demand for service by the communities of Bay County, Bay Town Trolley continues to offer affordable transportation options to its riders. For $15 riders can purchase a monthly pass or daily passes can be purchased for $3. Non-pass holders pay only $1 to climb aboard and $0.25 for transfers. Students, seniors and people with disabilities ride for $0.50.
"I am very pleased to hear about the success of the Trolley," said Parker City Mayor Brenda Hendricks. "With the recent cost of fuel and growth in our communities, it is important to offer affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options."
Bay Town Trolley is an award-winning transit system that serves Bay County, Monday through Friday, with hundreds of stops daily. For more information about Trolley routes call (850) 769-0557. All Bay Town Trolleys are equipped with bicycle racks and wheelchair lifts.
