(Panama City, Fla.) - With ridership numbers on the rise, Bay Town Trolley representatives seem hopeful of exceeding its goal to reach over a quarter million riders by year's end. The system continues to break previous ridership milestones as 27,953 passengers boarded for June 2006, a 45 percent increase from the number of riders at this time last year.

Several factors continue to fuel Bay Town Trolley's ridership records including rising gas prices and increased summer excursions. Still other factors, such as recent integration of route expansions and fine-tuning to better suit customer demand, play a vital part in this success.

"Stability of service and overall accessibility are key ingredients in building ridership," said Doug Boice, General Manager for Bay Town Trolley. "The impact of both, coupled with recent route improvements, should put us well beyond our year-end goal."

The system seems to be growing at a record pace - not unlike many around the country. In fact, over the past ten years U.S. public transportation use has grown by 25.1 percent as compared to a 22.5 percent growth rate in highway travel.

"These numbers show not only that the system is functioning efficiently, but it's continuing to provide a service that is responsive to the community's needs," said Beth Coulliette, Executive Director of Bay Town Trolley.

Bay Town Trolley is an award-winning transit system that serves the growing needs of Bay County, Monday through Friday, with hundreds of stops daily.
