(Panama City, Fla.) - Bay Town Trolley officials announced today that the 2006 ridership of 309,149 has been broken - two months before year’s end. At this pace, it is estimated that 2007 ridership will reach upwards of 380,000, reflecting system-wide increases of 23 percent.
In the first year of operation, just 12 years ago, the trolley averaged 1,300 passengers a month, totaling 16,000 riders. Last month alone, the trolley nearly doubled this year-end number with a recorded ridership of 30,000.
“These significant increases in ridership continue to demonstrate that the system meets a tremendous need in our community,” said Doug Boice, General Manager for Bay Town Trolley. “For many, it’s more than just a ride. The trolley continues to provide passengers with avenues to jobs, family and medical appointments at a reasonable cost.”
Bay Town Trolley offers affordable transportation options to all riders. Standard fare cost is just $1, while students, seniors and persons with disabilities ride for only $.50. Daily passes are available for $3 and a monthly pass is priced at $15.
Bay Town Trolley is an award-winning transit system that serves the growing needs of Bay County, Monday through Friday, with hundreds of stops daily.
