Trolley officials are using social media sites to increase depth within the community
(Panama City, Fla.) - Bay Town Trolley officials add social media component to their ongoing marketing efforts with new Facebook and Twitter profiles. Along with other businesses and organizations, trolley officials have found social media sites useful in expanding their communication reach to broader audiences.
“We’re excited to use social media as means to engage our community and keep the public abreast of trolley updates,” said Beth Coulliette, the trolley’s executive director. “Not only have we been able to connect with current trolley riders via Facebook and Twitter, but we’ve also met others who have yet to ride the trolley for the first time.”
Bay Town Trolley joins several other local organizations using social media marketing such as Gulf Coast Community College, Shipwreck Island and the Panama City Convention and Visitors Bureau. Local media outlets are even sending breaking news updates via Twitter on a more frequent basis.
“With all of the local businesses online together, we make it easier for our patrons to find us,” said Stephanie Brooks of Cyber Sytes, the online firm managing Shipwreck Island’s social media marketing. “Twitter and Facebook enables us to reach customers in a non-invasive way.”
Along with pertinent news updates, trolley officials are also using the Twitter and Facebook profiles to garner participation in their rider testimonial initiative. Both sites offer a platform for current riders to write and submit their testimonial for a chance to win a free annual pass and get featured in trolley promotions.
“What’s most unique about social media is the opportunity, and encouragement, for two-way communication,” said Beth Coulliette. “Too often organizations concentrate on disseminating message after message without ever taking the time to listen, and we’re breaking through that mold.”
