Bay Town Trolley Thanks Riders and Public Officials for Support
(Panama City, Fla.) - Bay Town Trolley officials announced that increased frequency on routes one, four and seven will end this month, following a successful seasonal term. Trolleys on these routes will return to regularly scheduled operation as of Sept. 30, 2009. Saturday and evening services will remain unaffected.
To meet peak seasonal demand, the increased services were implemented on beach and downtown routes in May of this year. This resulted in more frequent boarding at the Marina, Lynn Haven City Hall, Gulf Coast Community College, Pier Park and Carillon Beach stops.
“We had booming participation from the community,” said Alan Gray, Regional Planner II for the West Florida Regional Planning Council. “Our response to the results of transportation trends proved accurate, as both local and visiting riders took advantage of the services.”
Increased frequency would not have been possible without the support of community contributions. Local municipalities partnered to provide a state funding match in order to receive a Florida Department of Transportation Service Development Grant.
Subject to approval by the Bay County Transportation Planning Organization, increased frequency vehicles are programmed to return by March 2010 on the beach route and shortly thereafter for the system east of the Hathaway Bridge. For continued updates, visit BayTownTrolley.org.
