Bay Town Trolley Asks Everyone To Dump The Pump

Free rides all day on June 20 for National Dump the Pump Day

[Panama City, Fla.] – In celebration of the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day, Bay Town Trolley is giving free rides all day on Thursday, June 20, 2013. This initiative, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), is an effort to encourage people across the nation to cut down on their use of personal vehicles and increase their use of public transportation.

“I am very excited Bay Town Trolley is participating in Dump the Pump,” said Vikki Garrett of the West Florida Regional Planning Council and staff to the Bay County Transportation Planning Organization. “With household budgets tightening, this is a great time to take advantage of public transportation. By participating in Dump the Pump Day, people can positively impact both their wallets and the environment.”

According to APTA’s most recent Transit Savings Report, the average American household will save nearly $9,800 each year by choosing to take public transportation. In addition to lowering the amount of money families spend, public transportation also reduces our nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually.
